March Celebrates First Anniversary of Treforest CRC Site

March Celebrates First Anniversary of Treforest CRC Site
Friday 20 Feb 2009 [12:04]
The centre at the Treforest Industrial Estate was the first of its kind to be opened in the Taff Ely area, and was opened by the Council's Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for the Frontline Services Cllr Antony Christopher.

Community Recycling Centres are an integral part of the ongoing success story as they offer residents the opportunity to recycle a massive variety of items, some of which cannot be collected as part of the kerbside recycling service.

In March 2009, it will be one year since the opening of our flagship site at Treforest. The site is highly successful with a monthly landfill diversion rate in excess of 80%.

Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council had clear hopes for high recycling rates when they opened this site in 2008. Over the last year, in excess of 1240 tonnes of materials, such as plasterboard, rubble, oil and white goods were brought to site thanks to the recycling initiative of the Rhondda Cynon Taff residents. Of the material received 1027 tonnes was recycled or re-used. Without the commitment and co-operation of the residents of Rhondda Cynon Taf this would not have been possible.
